United States — SES under ESIGN & UETA (not notarization / wet-ink-only)

Electronic signatures in the United States on WordPress

WPsigner is for simple electronic signature (SES) workflows under ESIGN and UETA — sales contracts, NDAs, HR acknowledgments — with intent, consent, and audit evidence on your WordPress server. It is not a notary service, not for wet-ink-only instruments, and not HIPAA-certified.

Can I use WPsigner for this document in the United States?

Start with the required signature level—not the signing tool. This quick guide shows where a WPsigner SES workflow may fit and where it does not.

Does the transaction require wet ink, notarization, a statutory exclusion, or another special formality?

WPsigner may fit

ESIGN/UETA-compatible commercial document

If ESIGN, UETA, or New York ESRA allow electronic form, WPsigner can support a simple electronic signature workflow with intent, consent, attribution, integrity, and audit evidence.

Common SES use cases

  • Sales contracts & proposals
  • NDAs & vendor onboarding
  • HR acknowledgments
  • Agency client SOWs

Use a higher-assurance route

Wet ink, notarization, or an excluded act applies

WPsigner is an SES evidence tool for WordPress. It is not a notary service, not HIPAA-certified, and not a substitute for wet-ink-only or statute-excluded instruments.

  • Wet ink is still required by law or by the instrument
  • Notarization, apostille, or another formal acknowledgment is mandatory
  • The document is excluded from electronic form or needs a specific statutory method

Practical orientation only—not legal advice. The required signature level depends on the document, parties, and applicable law.

US businesses need evidence-ready signing — not envelope math

ESIGN and UETA recognize electronic signatures for many commercial transactions, but enforceability still depends on process, consent, attribution, and record quality.

ESIGN sets a federal baseline

The ESIGN Act prevents denying legal effect solely because a signature or record is electronic for transactions in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce.

UETA covers 49 states — New York uses ESRA

UETA is in force in 49 states plus DC and the US Virgin Islands. New York uses its Electronic Signatures and Records Act (ESRA) instead.

Cloud vaults vs self-hosted control

Many US teams want signed PDFs next to the rest of their WordPress stack — with clear audit trails they can export and retain under their own policy.

What US WordPress businesses typically sign

Sales contracts & proposals

Send agreements from your site. Clients sign via secure link — no WordPress account required.

NDAs & vendor onboarding

Capture confidentiality and supplier paperwork with timestamps and attribution records.

HR acknowledgments

Collect policy and handbook acknowledgments with audit history your team can file.

Agency client SOWs

Agencies running multiple WordPress sites can standardize signing without per-envelope pricing.

Why US teams choose WPsigner on WordPress

Self-hosted evidence controls

Documents stay on your WordPress infrastructure by default. You control backups, access, and retention.

Audit-ready SES workflows

Capture intent, consent signals, IP/device metadata, and document hashes to support ESIGN/UETA-oriented evidence.

Flat annual pricing

Plans start at $99/year with unlimited signatures on your licensed site — predictable cost for high volume.

FAQ

What types of signatures is WPsigner compatible with in the United States? +

Compatible: simple electronic signature (SES) workflows aligned with ESIGN Act and UETA evidence themes — intent to sign, consent to do business electronically, attribution, integrity, and retention. Typical fits include sales contracts, proposals, NDAs, vendor onboarding, HR acknowledgments, and agency SOWs. WPsigner captures consent, IP/device metadata, document hashes, and optional RFC 3161 timestamps in a tamper-evident audit trail. You can strengthen identity with OTP or optional KYC when risk warrants it.

What is WPsigner NOT compatible with in the United States? +

Not compatible / not a substitute for: (1) wet-ink signatures where law or the instrument still requires handwritten execution; (2) notarization, apostille, or other formal acknowledgment ceremonies; (3) documents that statutes exclude from electronic form or that need a specific statutory method; (4) HIPAA “certification” — WPsigner is not HIPAA-certified; covered entities remain responsible for their compliance program; (5) eIDAS Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) — that is an EU framework. If your document needs one of those formalities, use the required process instead of WPsigner.

Are WPsigner signatures automatically legally binding in every US state? +

No software can guarantee enforceability for every transaction. WPsigner provides SES controls that support ESIGN/UETA-oriented workflows; validity still depends on the document, parties, process, and applicable law. This page is not legal advice.

Does UETA apply in all 50 states? +

UETA is adopted in 49 states plus DC and the US Virgin Islands. New York uses ESRA rather than UETA. Illinois has adopted UETA.

Is WPsigner HIPAA-certified? +

No. WPsigner does not claim HIPAA certification. Covered entities remain responsible for risk analysis, configuration, BAAs with relevant vendors, and compliance programs.

Where do signed documents live? +

By default on your WordPress server. Data may leave the site only if you enable external storage, CRM, messaging, payments, or identity providers.
